Homeless Children

The term homeless children and youth means individuals who lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence and includes those who are sharing housing with others due to loss of housing or economic hardship. It also includes children and youth who are living in hotels, camping grounds, emergency shelters, cars, bus or train stations, or other similar settings. Each child of a homeless individual and each homeless youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, as provided to other children and youths, including a public preschool education. A homeless child may attend the District school that the child attended when permanently housed or in which the child was last enrolled. A homeless child living in any District school’s attendance area may attend that school. Transportation shall be provided in accordance with the McKinney Homeless Assistance Act and State law. If you are homeless or know of a child of youth that is homeless and not attending school, please contact the following person who will provide information and assistance during the enrollment process.
